Know-How Makes a Difference
Whether or not it is feasible deep drawing a particular
alloy to a particular depth while maintaining required tolerances
is something one learns by experience. What shaping should be designed
into the hydroform tooling and what is best left to secondary processes
can be critical in determining both the budget and the ability of
a supplier to deliver on schedule. And, transitions can be treacherous.
Knowing how to best execute complex transitions is a function of
a craft that no textbook can teach. The right equipment in deep
drawing is important, of course, but knowing what to do and how
to do it is also critical to successful precision metal forming.
